Marin County Parks and Open Space Department

The Marin County Open Space District (MCOSD) manages approximately 249 miles of fire roads and trails on 34 open space preserves. Certain fire roads and trails are temporarily closed because of wet weather conditions, natural hazards, wildland fire, construction activities, and/or resource restoration projects. Fire roads and trails are closed to protect natural resources and user safety. Depending on site conditions, closures may affect some or all uses including bicyclists, equestrians, pedestrians, and vehicles.

The MCOSD posts closure signs at trailheads to notify visitors of current use restrictions and to remind visitors to use alternate routes. Please cooperate with closure restrictions while visiting the MCOSD lands; violators are subject to citation. Conditions and closures may change without notice on a daily basis due to weather, natural hazards, wildland fire, and/or the MCOSD activities. Visit related pages to learn about safety, rules and regulations, and the MCOSD policies. For questions about the MCOSD fire road and trail closures, contact Superintendent Brian Sanford at (415) 473-7473.
